Flowers are not the only thing The Westbrook Group helps to grow. Their recent major gift donation of $100,000 to the Niagara West YMCA Capital Campaign demonstrates their commitment to the growth of children, families and community.
A strong supporter of west Niagara initiatives, Westbrook’s long history of giving back started when they opened their doors over 50 years ago.
“Westbrook Group has supported many Niagara charities and we are proud that our name is now linked to the support of the YMCA,” explains Rej Picard, CEO of The Westbrook Group of Companies. “We see the YMCA as an organization that will benefit everyone in our community and we are happy to help make it happen.”
With over 3500 new members, the Niagara West YMCA has been open since the end of November. Both the young and the young at heart have been enjoying children’s programs such as Active Kids and Games Galore, Youth Action, cyclefit classes, Zumba, walking and fitness enhancement.
“We are so grateful for the support of Westbrook,” says Norm Beal, volunteer Chair of the Niagara West YMCA Capital Campaign. “So many families have already started to benefit from their generosity. I’m proud to say that anyone can enjoy the YMCA experience regardless of age, ability or income level. I have seen the excitement and it is huge.”
The finishing touches are being added to the aquatic centre which is slated to open in February. It features a fully accessible 25 metre four lane pool, an aquatic leisure pool and a family swirl pool.
Now open, the new YMCA offers an Indoor Track, Multipurpose Rooms, Play Centre and Health Enhancement Centre, all within a physically accessible design. The Niagara West YMCA open to everyone, provides opportunities for growth, healthy living, leadership, employment and community involvement for the communities of Lincoln, Grimsby and West Lincoln.
As a values-based charity dedicated to healthy living and well being, the YMCA of Niagara has a positive impact on the health of over 75,000 people of all backgrounds, abilities and stages of life from across the region. Operating from 176 program sites throughout Niagara, the YMCA offers membership, child care, youth outreach, day camp and employment and newcomer services supported by over 1000 volunteers annually. The YMCA of Niagara is open to all and is dedicated to providing leadership and opportunities for people and their community to grow in spirit, mind, and body.
